Ice Cube Melt Relay Race For Kids of All Ages

Now that temperatures are finally heating up, it’s time to head outdoors! Break out the sunscreen, trendy sunglasses and girls swimwear, then turn on the sprinkler or hose down the slip ‘n slide. Here’s another fun game you can add to the outdoor festivities. This Ice Cube Melt Relay race is a great group activity for children of all ages, so everyone from wee ones in baby girl swimwear to pre-teens can join in on the fun.

Here’s all you will need:
• Two teams with an equal number of players
• Two ice cubes that are the same size

This game is pretty simple but still tons of fun! Freeze two ice cubes, one for each team (the bigger the better). Arrange each team in a single file line and let each team member hold the ice cube for a set amount of time, about 20-30 seconds. At the sound of a whistle or some other signal, they player must pass the ice cube off to the next teammate behind them. The first team to completely melt their ice cube wins!

School's Out Party | Sophia's Style Boutique Children's Clothing Store

That old song "School's Out for Summer" will be playing on many radio stations soon. Why not plan a party for your kids around that theme? It's pretty easy to do and will be a great kickoff for summer vacation.

Have your kids tell their friends that they're invited and for them to wear outside play clothes. Set up tables or blankets outside in the grass. If you could find the cute plaid blankets, it would add to that picnic theme.

Food - make it simple...burger and hot dogs on the grill, potato chips and bottled water. For dessert, you can find watermelon a good choice or maybe Popsicles. Cheap and easy. Make sure you load up on napkins and wet wipes and pull that big trashcan out for all the trash.

Games - pull out a couple of play balls..start up a soccer or volleyball game. Get out the Frisbee (if you can get it away from the dog) and have an area for that. The weather will probably not be warm enough for water balloons or squirt guns, but if it is...go for it!

Make sure you have the camera handy and get some fun candid pictures. Your children will love them, as alot of the times children are out of pocket during the summer due to daycare, vacations, etc.

Our fit tip this week is to help your child make the transition to a healthy summer by switching from sugary sodas or powdered drink mixes to good old fashioned water. Water makes up about 80% of the brain and is an essential element in neurological transmissions. Poor hydration adversely affects a child's mental performance and learning ability. This is an easy fix...grab some reusable water containers at your nearest discount store. Wash them up and have a special cabinet for them. Easy for you or the kids to grab, fill with ice and cold water. You can even pre-fill them with water and store them in the fridge. Much cheaper than buying cases of bottled water. Grab and go!

When you drink is also important. If you're going to sports practice, a game, or just working out or playing hard, drink water before, during, and after playing. Don't forget your water bottle. You can't play your best when you're thinking about how thirsty you are!

It's a Tea Party | Girls Special Occasion Dresses at Sophia's Style Boutique

I'm always struggling for fun party ideas for my granddaughter. I want to make it special when they are staying with me. I thought why not do a tea party! But, everyone knows Grandma Patty doesn't do things halfway. I sent out formal invites to my granddaughters and my great niece. I gave them plenty of notice and let them know I will be providing them attire for the event.

I shopped at SophiasStyle.com girls clothing store and found the perfect little girls special occasion dresses for the event. They had the style I was looking for and the price was perfect. I purchased each girl's dress and they were able to take them home as a memento.

For the menu-easy. I made little finger sandwiches, but not of cucumber and watercress, but of peanut butter. I also offered small butter cookies. The tea was apple juice. I found a cute tea set at a local thrift store. I set up their small craft table with a lovely tablecloth and some flowers that I got from the grocery store.

We turned off the phone and turned on some of my classical music. The girls were sat at the table and we had discussions about the weather, what we'd like to do this summer, etc. The conversation did get giggly and silly at times, but it was good quality time together. We all had to use our best table manners during this tea. That included napkins folded across the lap, elbows off the table and of course our "please" and "thank you".

At the end of the tea, I had grandpa come in and take a picture of me and the girls together. I then told them that they could keep those dresses, as long as they promised that they would carry on this tradition with their daughters and granddaughters. I plan on making copies of this picture and framing it for my daughter and my niece.

What a wonderful experience. I was so glad that I did that, and it just might become a yearly event. This tea party idea is easy to pull off. Offer to take the pictures with your digital camera and send copies to the parents. Make sure to get a picture of each girl and their "date". A group picture would also be fun.

Snacks - punch, cookies..simple, easy and a crowd pleaser. Make sure that you have plenty of napkins and that it's not a dark red punch.

Easter Egg Decorating | Sophia's Style Boutique

Easter is coming!! The folks here at SophiasStyle.com are busy scrambling (pardon the egg pun) to get all the preparations ready for our Easter traditions. I was listening to everyone getting ready to color eggs, and it made me think about the other ways to decorate eggs that do not involve food coloring or vinegar! The cutest idea I found was in Parents Magazine. They call these Sheep-er by the Dozen. Fuzzy white baby socks and felt transform eggs into a fun flock.

What you'll need: Fuzzy white baby sock (0-6 months), scissors, tan felt, pink felt, tacky glue, two googly eyes, black embroidery floss, needle, two 1/2-inch white pom-poms.

Make it: Cut sock to 2 1/2 inches tall. Cut two outer ear pieces from tan felt and two inner ear pieces from pink felt using the templates. Glue the pink piece to the center of the tan piece and repeat for other ear. Once dry, glue ears to the sides of the sock, pink side down. Cut a circle 1 1/4 inches in diameter out of tan felt and glue to sock. Glue googly eyes on the circle and stitch an upper-case "Y" below the eyes with embroidery floss for the nose and mouth. Glue two 1/2-inch white pom-poms to the front bottom edge for the feet.
