Girls Outfits For Every Season | Sophia's Style

Baby Girl Outfit
Baby Girl Outfit

My officemate is already getting excited about playing Christmas music at work.  I told her it's too early, and then I started browsing our girls outfits, looking for blog inspiration, and came across this baby girl outfit.  How cute is that?!  The leggings look like candy canes, and the tunic is decorated with gingerbread cookies!  Now that I've looked at it, I want to listen to Christmas music and eat cookies.  *Sigh,* I give in.  As soon as the weather gets cold, I can't help but think of the holidays.

Does anyone have big plans this year?  The more I look at our girls outfits, the more I miss going to my grandparents' house when I was a kid.  I loved sitting in my grandma's kitchen near the oven while she made dinner.  I always had some kind of Christmas sweater or dress that was really warm and cozy, and my mom always made me let her curl my hair.  I may be a bit of a girly-girl, but that doesn't mean I like having my hair fixed.  I'm pretty sure we had a fight everytime she came anywhere near me with a brush, a curling iron, or (heaven forbid) a bottle of hairspray.

I hope everyone else is as excited as I am for Christmas this year!  We only have a couple more months, it'll be here before we know it!

Kids Halloween Costumes! | Sophia's Style

Kids Halloween Costumes
Perhaps you haven't noticed, but we're a bit excited about our new kids Halloween costumes around here. If you think it's bad now, just wait, we're getting more children's costumes in every day, so you'll be seeing tons of new ones showing up on the site! And don't forget to look at the baby costumes, they're crazy cute and so teeny!

In other news, August is essentially here, and that means the kiddies will be back in school soon. Before everyone gets too busy for family time, I have a great idea for a fun family dinner: crepes! I made them last night, and I have no cooking skills to speak of, so I promise it's easy and honestly so much fun.

Here's what you need: 1/2 cup of milk, 1/2 cup of water, 3 eggs, 1 cup of flour, 1/2 tbsp orange flavoring (or you can use a different flavor, you won't really taste it in the crepe, it just gives it a little hint of flavor so they won't taste like flour)

Kids Halloween Costumes
Here's what you do:

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl with a wire wisk, until it's really runny and aerated.

Using a ladel, pour about three quarters of a ladel-full into a greased pan over the stove (on a low heat setting) and sort of swirl the pan around until the whole bottom is covered in a thin layer of batter.

When the very edges of the crepe begin to brown, use a spatula to flip it over.

Wait just ten seconds or so, then use the spatula to take the crepe out and put it on a plate.

Have your kids decide what toppings they want on each crepe, then they can prepare their own! My favorite is sour cream and salmon, with chives. They might like ham and cheese, or peanut butter, you can put just about anything you want on as a topping. For desert, they taste great with jam, or nutella and bananas, or fruit and whip cream.

Enjoy the kids while they're still home for summer, and don't forget to take a look at Sophia's Style children's costumes, you could let the kids get a jump start deciding what they want to be this year!

Christening Gowns, Traditions Today

Baptism ceremonies are one of the first and most meaningful traditions you will experience with your child.  It's a rite that dates back to biblical times, and serves as an important spiritual commitment.  Originally, the term "christening" referred to a ceremony in which a child was both baptized and given their name.  Currently, a christening is both a baptism and a formal presentation of your child to the church, family, and friends, which is why a christening gown is such a precious keepsake.

When choosing a christening gown, you'll want to find something that is beautiful and timeless, just like the tradition itself.  Many families choose to save baptism gowns so that they can be passed down, generation after generation, as a family heirloom.  If you're purchasing a gown, you probably already realize the importance of finding something beautiful for your child to wear, but you may also want to consider quality and style, as this is an opportunity for you to start your own family tradition!

At Sophia's Style, we carry a variety of christening dresses that are hand made with clear attention to detail and quality.  They're pieces that will survive the test of time, and more importantly, the test of fussy babies.  We carry gowns in several different styles, so you can choose from very traditional looks or more contemporary takes on baptismal wear.  Everything is made from the best materials and sold at reasonable prices, because we know the importance of quality that's affordable.

Don’t Forget Those First Communion Photos | SophiasStyle.com

Little girls and boys spend many months preparing for their first communion – studying the history and significance of the sacrament, shopping for the perfect 1st communion dress and maybe even planning a party or celebration for afterwards. Like any big event, there can be months of anticipation only to have everything pass you by in a matter of hours! That’s why pictures on this special day are more important than ever.

You’ll want to get plenty of single portraits of your little one in his or her first communion clothing, but don’t forget all of the others involved in making this special day happen! Be sure to take a photo with the child’s school teachers or religious educators who have helped the young one prepare for first Holy Communion – including priests, deacons, nuns, or any other ministers. A special photo with the child’s godparents is also a must. Finish up with group family photos or those with special friends.

We’ve got everything you need for their first holy communion – communion gowns, boys suits, veils, socks and tights, dress shoes and more! Be prepared for the big day with the help of SophiasStyle.com.

Tasty Turkey Day Treats| SophiasStyle.com

Thanksgiving will be here before we know it! Like me, I’m sure you’re planning a feast with all of those holiday favorites – turkey, stuffing, potatoes, pumpkin pie and more. All those traditional foods just say “Thanksgiving” to me and I can’t wait to spend time with my friends and family at the dinner table.

Here’s another tasty treat you can add to your Thanksgiving menu this year. These adorable turkey cookies from Pilsbury! I saw them in the Sunday paper this weekend and loved the idea. This makes a great craft for kids and will help get everyone into the Turkey Day spirit.

Simply use a dot of frosting to add chocolate candies at the center of a sugar cookie for the turkey’s eyes. Pipe a small dollop of frosting onto candy corns and stick them to the top of the cookie for the feathers. To finish up, use gel frosting to add feet and a beat. Voila – a terrific (and tasty) Thanksgiving turkey!

I hope you all have a fabulous Thanksgiving with those you love and cherish. And don’t forget about our girls special occasion dresses at SophiasStyle.com and find a special dress for a special day.

What food are you looking forward to this Thanksgiving? Share with us!

We Had A Spook-tacular Time At The Omaha Zoo

So all of us at SophiasStyle.com are still recovering from the great time we had at the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo Spooktacular trick-or-treat event on Sunday. We couldn’t have asked for a better day – we even had a little sunshine!

There were about 11,000 people in attendance and man were all those kids in costumes super cute! Some of our favorites were a robot with real light up features, a group of triplets all dressed alike as Shrek and two families that dressed as the superhero clan The Incredibles. Here are some photos from the event http://www.flickr.com/photos/tierneyphotography/sets/72157622665058528/

I wish you all could have made it out to see us. We had our girls clothing on display and our sister company SweetGourmetGifts.com handed out delicious baked goods to the guests. I think we’ll definitely partner with the zoo again next year! Hope you can make it then!

Creative Gift Giving | SophiasStyle.com

Gift giving is good for the soul. I love seeing a person’s eyes light up and their mouth break into a smile when they open a gift that I put a lot of thought and care into giving them. There is truly something magical and heartwarming about that feeling.

Although the end result is great, sometimes it can be a long and frustrating process finding that unique and meaningful (but still affordable) gift. Nowadays little girls can be especially hard to shop for. Children today have so many toys and gadgets that they all seem to run together and many of them never even get used. My advice on gift ideas for girls is to keep it simple! These days simplicity can be a novel concept – we are so used to our complicated, busy lives and little girls are no different!

Instead of another new gizmo that is just like everything else she already has, consider a gift that is useful and beautiful, like this polka-dot piggy bank from SophiasStyle.com. It’s a great decoration for her room and you can help her learn the value and importance of saving.

Books also make great gifts for little girls (or boys!) These personalized musical books from SophiasStyle.com have a place to insert a picture of the child and it plays music while you read. She’ll never have another book like it! Sharing a story together will create more memories than any cell phone or video game ever could.

Declare Tonight Family Night | SophiasStyle.com

All of us have fast-paced lives full with work, school, friends and other activities. With all that’s going on it is so hard to keep up with our families. Today is the day to make time for your family, no matter what! When I was a little girl my family designated every Sunday night as family night. Sometimes we would go to dinner at a restaurant or just stay home and play a board game. My favorite activity was a trip to the roller skating rink.

Pick whatever day works best for your family. If other activities get in the way, try your best to work around them so that your family still gets time together each week. You can even incorporate other events into family night. If your little one has a soccer game that day, make your group activity be cheering him or her on at the game!

Dress your little girl for whatever Family Night activity you have planned with little girls clothing from SophiasStyle.com . She’ll be ready for the zoo, the park or just hanging out at home. Shop our little girls clothes online and save on designer boutique looks. You won’t spend a fortune on her wardrobe so you’ll have money left over for fun family activities!

Easy Birthday Decorations Sure To Delight Your Party Guests

Planning for your little girl’s first birthday party is a lot of fun but can be stressful too. You want everything to look great and go smoothly, but it’s hard to throw a big bash when you’ve got a little to chase after! This great idea for birthday decorations will help simplify at least one aspect of your party.

Choose a colorful, decorative plastic bowl to use as a centerpiece at each table. You can use any size you like, or even different sizes at each table for a really interesting look. Next, gather an assortment of colorful wrapping bows to fill the bowls with. You can purchase new bows, or re-use old gift bows if you have them. Anything goes! You can choose different colors to fit any birthday theme or season.

Not only is this project inexpensive, simple, and mess free, but your pint-sized party guests will love playing with all the brightly colored bows! If you’ve ever seen a baby with gift bows, you know it will keep them busy for hours.

Don’t forget to shop our selection of girls birthday dresses at SophiasStyle.com. A beautiful birthday dress is just what you need to “decorate” your adorable little guest of honor!

Plan A Spook-tacular Halloween Party with SophiasStyle.com

Like most other kids, my daughter is always excited for Halloween. She loves dressing up, trick-or-treating and all the candy. This year, however, she is more excited than ever for Halloween because I am letting her have her first boy/girl party with friends from school. I think she’s really nervous, but also very excited! Throwing a party for all her school friends makes her feel like a grown up!

Like any other year, she wants to find a great Halloween costume to wear. She wants one that all the kids will love (I think she might be trying to impress the little boy she has a crush on!) We ordered this Halloween costume from SophiasStyle.com for the party. It was very affordable and we didn’t find girls Halloween costumes in stores that were anything like it – truly one-of-a-kind! She can even wear it after Halloween to play dress up with her friends. SophiasStyle.com also has lots of great baby Halloween costumes, so her baby brother can join the party too!

After we got her costume squared away, it was on to the rest of the party details. I found a great pumpkin-shaped ice cube tray at a local craft store. These festive ice cubes will really jazz up the punch bowl! Last year I also found some plastic Halloween cups on the clearance shelf for about 30 cents each. I’m going to fill them with little plastic bags of puppy chow mix. They’ll make the perfect party favors!

Do you have any other creative ideas for our Halloween party? I can’t wait to hear them!

Help Her Prepare For Her First Communion

A girl’s first communion marks a turning point in her life. It signifies that she is truly growing up, not only in her faith but as a young lady too. Even after all of these years, I still remember the day I made my first communion. I also remember the beautiful first communion dress I was wearing. One of the most important elements of the ceremony is, of course, her communion dress. It is typically white and should be more than just your average, everyday dress. It should be a garment that makes you say “Wow! This dress is truly for a very special occasion!”

SophiasStyle.com has dozens of communion dresses that fit the bill! Our dresses make young girls feel beautiful and add to the significance of the sacrament. We also carry plus size communion dresses, so we have a dress for every girl, not matter her size, shape or personality! Don’t forget accessories such as communion veils and gloves to complete the look.

If you are a grandparent, aunt, uncle, friend or any other person who is part of this important celebration, you also want to find the perfect gift to help her mark this blessed event in her life. A great first communion gift is a rosary, perhaps one that is more grown up and sophisticated than plastic rosary beads. Another idea is a statue of her favorite saint, or a saint she is named after. Finally, a prayer book or a guide makes a great gift because it will help her gain a better understanding of the sacrament she is taking part in.

Do you have any other ideas for first communion gifts? We’d love to hear them!

The kids are back in school and now that Labor Day has passed, summer is officially over. This is the time to start planning for the holiday picture! I like to start getting some ideas of what I want to do for the oh-so-famous picture on our Christmas cards this year. Should we all sit in front of the Christmas tree or the fireplace? Discount School Uniforms at SophiasStyle.com

As a product of the private school system, I am very familiar with school uniforms. In fact, college was the first time in my life I didn’t have to wear a uniform to school! Now that I am an adult I realize just how many sacrifices my parents made to send me to private school. Part of that sacrifice was spending loads of money on my school uniform each fall.

Luckily parents today have a better option for uniforms. SophiasStyle.com offers both boys and girls school uniforms at discount prices. We have pants, shorts, dresses and tops that are exactly what you need. Spending lots of money on school uniforms is so last school year!

Celebrate Your Little Girl With A Birthday Dress

Click here for girls Birthday dresses at SophiasStyle.com

A friend of mine got wonderful news this week and I’m so excited for her! Finally paperwork has come through from the Indian government and next month she and her husband will be traveling overseas to adopt two young sisters from India. They started this process more than a year ago, and now the adoption is nearly final. The girls were abandoned in a train station after their mother died, and I know my friend is anxious and excited to show her new daughters the love and care they’ve been missing.

To help her celebrate their arrival, friends and family are throwing a “gotcha day” party for the girls. This is a common occurrence, especially when families adopt internationally. Instead of celebrating the child’s birthday (which is often times unknown), they celebrate the day he or she was adopted – a “gotcha day.” It’s a great way of moving forward from a past that is often scary and painful. More importantly, it signifies a new beginning with a new family.

Just because the celebration has a different name does not mean the girls should be without beautiful birthday dresses! I helped my friend pick out a birthday dress from SophiasStyle.com for each girl to wear to her party. They’ll be the perfect icing on the cake for their “gotcha day” celebration. I know their new dresses will make the girls feel like princesses on such an important day in their lives. I hope beautiful birthday outfits help them create memories with their new family that will truly last a lifetime!

How do you celebrate you daughter’s birthday (or “gotcha day”)? We can’t wait to hear from you!
